A recent survey conducted among 9,784 participants found that over 90 percent of employees involved in emerging occupations in the service industry are the post-1980s generations, Tuesday's China Daily reported.
Due to China's consumption upgrading in the service industry, new and unusual jobs including home party manager and photo-shooting tour planner are created. Positive prospects of the industry have attracted young people, according to the newspaper.
Among all post-1980s respondents who are working in the service industry, around half were born after 1990 and 22 percent were born after 1995.
Ke Xuan, in her 20s, is a stylist specializing in hanfu, the ancient clothing of China's Han ethnic group. She left her previous job in early 2018. 'Only by doing things I like can my career go further,' she said.
'The scope of service has expanded so that new jobs are created,' said Shao Heng, vice-president of knowledge-sharing app Dedao. 'The demands of consumers become more specific when the basis consumption has transformed,' added Shao.
Top earners were mainly involved with pets, wedding services, childcare, cosmetic medicine and entertainment, the newspaper reported, citing the National Bureau of Statistics.
